SUNNY days are keeping the NSW cane harvest running smooth and strong global sugar prices are also putting smiles on the faces of cane growers, despite the fact the crop is cutting under estimate due to a poor growing season through January.
Green, or whole-of-cane harvesting, is now in its second year for growers in the Far North East of the State and the dry weather, combined with harvest machinery modifications and the benefit of experience is helping make the monumental shift run well.
Global raw sugar prices are sitting around the very strong 17 US cents per pound due to an international crop deficit in the vicinity of six million tonnes and analysts are predicting the next three years will see good returns for Australian growers.
