‘Murrumbo’ joins big name sales spree

25 May, 2009 05:00 AM
The catalogue of big-name properties to hit the market this year has just expanded with the listing for June 19 auction of “Murrumbo” in the Upper Hunter region.

Home of the Sevenbardot Poll Hereford stud, “Murrumbo” is one of a number of Upper Hunter properties now commanding investor attention.

Others include “Oratora”, a 1310-hectare riverfront property originally part of “Belltrees”, and “Kingslyn”, a 1325ha mixed farming property fronting the Merriwa River near Merriwa.

Recent sales of grazing property in this favoured region have seen prices paid from around $2000/ha to more than $3000/ha ($800/ac to more than $1200/ac), and upwards of $6000 for a cow area.

Substantially higher prices apply to river country suitable for equine or dairying pursuits.

“Murrumbo”, a large-scale holding of 3000ha (7300 acres), is owned by the polo-playing Gunn family, who relocated there from Goondiwindi, Queensland, in 2000.
