Mining firm Xtrata buys up Hunter farmland

Swiss mining company Xstrata has been buying up farms outside Muswellbrook, NSW, as part of its coal exploration.

According to The Australian Financial Review, a 190-hectare property at Denman has been purchased for $2.9 million and a 94ha property at Wybong settled for $950,000.

Xstrata also is believed to have settled on vineyard properties such as Cruikshank Callatoota Estate for several million dollars.
