Irrigator buys into dryland farming

31 Aug, 2010 04:00 AM
An established irrigator has diversified into dry land farming with the purchase of The Ranch at Carroll, in north-east NSW, for $3.5 million.

The Australian Financial Review reports that the propery was offered for sale for the first time in almost 90 years.

The 780-hectare property sits in a superior rainfall area in the Namoi Valley district.

Water is provided through a 184-megalitre irrigation licence, two irrigation bores, five stock and domestic bores and four dams.

The property has four homes – two weatherboard houses and two workers' cottages.

There is also a hay shed, machinery shed, cement floor workshop, wool shed and cattle yards.
