‘GREENETHORPE needs you’ is the slogan for the latest rural community wanting to attract new families with the lure of $1 a week rent.
Greenethorpe has jumped on the dollar rent bandwagon, hoping to replicate the success of the Cumnock $1 Farmhouse Project.
Co-ordinator of the Greenethorpe dollar farmhouse project, Danielle Allen, said committee members saw the success of the Cumnock project and thought they had nothing to lose.
“Cumnock ended up with 19 new families and doubled the number of children at the school,” said Ms Allen.
The main aim is to boost numbers at the school.
Ms Allen said the Parents and Citizens Association had worked hard to make sure the school was well resourced and the student/ teacher ratio meant students’ individual learning needs were well met.
