ANOTHER rich opportunity for acquiring large-scale cattle breeding country in rain-favoured north-east NSW has arisen with the listing for sale of Barry Station, near Nundle, south-east of Tamworth.
Barry Station is a sprawling 8,489 hectare (20,967 acre) aggregation of Eastern Fall grazing country, strategically situated in the upper catchments of the Barnard and Hunter rivers.
At a vendor-estimated carrying capacity of 4,000 breeders, Barry Station is in the serious numbers league.
It’s the third “big ticket” grazing property to hit the market in that vicinity in as many years, coming on the heels of the sales of the 6,162ha “Wombramurra” and the 30,868ha Glenrock Station.
Those properties were marketed with stated carrying capacities of 3,000 and 6,000 breeders respectively.
Barry Station is owned by former earthmover, Ian Anderson, who bought it 17 years ago from Australian Goat Breeders Ltd, after the latter ran into difficulties.
It was earlier held for some years by Australian Agricultural Company (AACo), which used it to breed young cattle for finishing on its inland properties.
Mr Anderson, having transformed Barry Station from what he remembers as a “blackberry farm” in 1992 to a manageable and productive cattle property, is now ready to retire and relocate with his wife, Sonya, to something smaller, close to a major centre.
He has listed the property for sale by expressions of interest with Scott Waters of Chris Ward Property Sales, Tamworth, and price indications are for an offer range upwards of $10 million.
