MIXED store sheep prices and limited supplies are expected to continue until after the grain harvest when farmers will then reassess their options.
Store sheep prices have picked up due to a lack of numbers, according to Elders livestock salesman, Tony Mooy, Coonamble, who said older store ewes had averaged from $50 to $55 and younger ewes had made $65 to $75.
And there were still high prices available for the right article, such as last week when Narromine first-cross ewes topped at $92, while at Hay, Merino ewes sold to $84 and first-cross ewes peaked at $82.
Landmark livestock manager, Joe Donelan, Narromine, said numbers were solid.
“We have had a pretty rough season to begin, but the latter part has improved, and bigger sheep supplies have started to appear.”
He said the older sheep market had been selling at lower levels due to most people targeting store lambs, which sold up to $20 dearer at Dubbo and Narromine in the past week.
