TUBBY Taylor and Warnie both sold at $500 each while another dozen cricketing namesakes ended up grossing $6750 to average $482 at last week’s Dubbo sheep and lamb sale.
The 14 lambs, spray-painted pink for the occasion, were donated by several Trangie producers who named each lamb after an Aussie international cricketer, with proceeds going to the McGrath Foundation.
Trangie Hotel publican Shane Dalton organised the fundraiser after several customers said they had some sheep to spare.
“I suggested donating (money from) them to the McGrath Foundation and we were inundated with offers,” he said.
Mr Dalton is better known in cricket circles as the “Pink Pigeon Man” for racing pink pigeons at another McGrath Foundation fundraiser during the Sydney Cricket test series, now known as the “Pink” Test.
“Some of the lambs were purchased and re-donated by buyers, which led to 25 sales – it was a wonderful gesture of buyers on the day,” he said.
The sale preceded Monday’s regular lamb and sheep sale, and all at the Troy yards enjoyed the festivities including Trangie agent and auctioneer Peter Cruickshank, who donned a Santa hat for the occasion.
