About 1320 quality Angus store cattle from northern NSW were in demand from buyers across the eastern States at the Eighth Annual Walgett Feature Store Cattle Sale on Wednesday last week.
Clemson Hiscox and Company principal, Chris Clemson, Walgett, said most of the yarding had been finished on crop in preparation for the sale.
"The quality was excellent and as good as I have seen at a Walgett sale," Mr Clemson said.
He said a big portion of the yarding, which consisted mostly of yearlings, were in top store to prime condition.
Having established a strong reputation for offering well-bred cattle at this annual sale, Mr Clemson said buyers travelled to the sale from at far at Taroom in Queensland right through to Launceston in Tasmania.
"This is the eighth year we have held the sale and many of the bloodlines would be in the top 10 to 20 per cent of the Angus breed," he said.
Breaking down the sale results, Mr Clemson estimated on a cents a kilogram basis most of the yearling steers ranged from 165 to 175 cents a kilogram (liveweight) based on the selection of cattle which went across the weigh scales.
"The heifers would have ranged from about 150c/kg to 165c/kg," he said.
