PrimeAg chairman and former National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) president, Peter Corish, headed the list of many country Australians rewarded in the Australia Day 2009 honours.
The Queensland farmer, “Mundine”, Goondiwindi, Mr Corish, was made a member of the general division of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to agriculture, particularly the cotton industry, through the implementation of innovative farming practices, the development of agricultural and natural resources policies, and through a range of industry and related organisations.
Mr Corish, who was NFF president from 2002 to ’06, and his family grow irrigated cotton, dryland cereals and oilseeds, and produce beef and lamb, on properties at Goodiwindi and Mungindi, as well as at Talwood, Condamine and Emerald, Qld.
His numerous industry positions have included commissioner of the National Water Commission (2005-08); Cotton Australia chairman (1995-99), and director of the Australian Cotton Industry Council (1997-2001).
Since 2007 Mr Corish has been chairman of PrimeAg, a company formed to develop agricultural production hubs in five river valleys between Gunnedah and Emerald, Qld.
