THE beef industry’s most successful producers are those willing to go outside their farmgate to work with all links of the supply chain, says the energetic boss of the fast growing Atron Enterprises meat business, David Larkin.
Leading beef producers are those who are aware of the part they play in the industry as a whole says the Casino-based “meatpreneur” just named the Australian Meat Industry Council’s (AMIC) 2009 Distinguished Australian of the Year.
Mr Larkin is considered one of the foremost strategic planners in the Australian beef industry.
He is involved with numerous State and national industry and government bodies and is one of the creators of the model on which our beef industry now trades with the US when Australia’s export quota ceiling is breached.
Atron Enterprises, established just two years ago, is one of the largest operators at the Northern Co-operative Meat Company abattoir at Casino, last year turning over $65 million and now processing 2500 head a week (all above 150 kilograms carcase weight).
Under eight different brands, Atron exports to every market in the world, primarily supplying buyers in Japan, Korea, the US and the Middle East.
