Beef 09 champs pay $42,000 at National Hereford sale

Fresh from winning last week's interbreed championship at Beef 09, the Nixon family's Wallan Creek Hereford Stud, of Drillham, Qld, has this morning paid the top dollar of $42,000 for a bull at the Hereford National Show and Sale in Wodonga, Vic.

The Nixons last week exhibited Wallan Creek Dimbulah C261, a 19-month-old Hereford bull, which took out the grand champion interbreed bull title at Rockhampton's Beef Australia exhibition.

Today they paid the market-top price of $42,000 for Sugarloaf Cracov CO44, offered by Andrew and Serena Klippel, from Sugarloaf Creek Herefords, Corryong, Vic.

The Nixons have already sold semen from the bull to other breeders who attended the national sale.

Meanwhile, it was Peter and Deanne Sykes, Mawarra Herefords, Longford, Victoria, who enjoyed the showring success at the 44th Hereford National Show and Sale in Wodonga.

Yesterday they took out the grand champion Hereford bull title with Mawarra Unique CO41 - a full brother to the grand champion Hereford bull at last year's show, Mawarra Trail Blazer. Both bulls were out of Mawarra Minerva.

The Sykes family sold six bulls in all to a top of $32,000 for Mawarra Unique CO41.

"We're delighted - it's just a phenomenal result and really cemented what occurred at our on-property sale," Mrs Sykes said.

In all 79 Hereford bulls sold at an average of $7397, while 35 Poll Herefords sold to a top of $24,000 to average $4600.

Fantastic results for the whiteface breed - both in the north & south - showing Herefords true colours and proving that our breed performs in all climates and for all markets. Remember Herefords make black better!
