Coona's star lights up the Show

21 Apr, 2009 04:36 PM
Coonabarabran, the astronomy capital of Australia, has a new star to add to it's fame, that of Kimbalee Morris, the first Coonabarabran Showgirl to claim the title of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl.

To mark the win, the town will welcome her home today (THURSDAY) with a celebratory lunch at the Warrumbungle Shire Council.

A quiet and unassuming young woman, Kimbalee's surprise at her name being announced by Royal Agricultural Society of NSW councillor, the Honourable Justice Lloyd Waddy, during the presentation ceremony on Saturday was clearly evident, and she was initially lost for words.

Twenty-four hours later, Kimbalee, 21, a student at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, studying for a Bachelor of Human Movement, said the realisation of her win was starting to sink in.

"I didn't expect to win, my only goal was to get to the Sydney final - to win something more is such an honour," she said.

Full story in The Land, April 23.
