These were some of the big messages from the plethora of experts across a range fields such as the sciences, marketing and psychology, and the producers - some of whom were seventh generation dairy people – who spoke at the 2010 Australian Dairy Farmers Conference in Wollongong, on the South Coast, this week.
Close to 400 delegates from throughout the country, and some from New Zealand, gathered for the premier dairy event and the discussion was robust and cutting-edge.
Animated and charismatic speakers, many of them international and some even presenting via video conference, were as entertaining as they were informative, and everything from lameness and udder health to the opportunities presented to Australians by the Chinese market were covered, all with a fair helping of humour and a good dose of “telling it how it is”.
The conference also played host to the prestigious Young Scientists’ Communication Award, sponsored by the Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, which saw seven of the country’s brightest up-and-coming industry researchers showcase their work.
