NSW Farmers to make property rights an election issue

02 Feb, 2010 12:53 PM
NSW Farmers Association president, Charles Armstrong, says property rights will be big issue for the Federal Government and Opposition in the lead up to this year's Federal election.

Mr Armstrong, from Nyngan in Western NSW, told journalists ahead of today's farm rally in Canberra that the erosion of property rights was frustrating farmers and all land owners, and the issue of compensation for that loss of rights must be dealt with at both a Federal and State level.

Mr Armstrong said the aim of today was to garner public support and to show the government how greatly the problem was frustrating land holders.

"We're very concerned about the erosion of property rights and what governments are doing in terms of taking away those rights and not compensating the individuals that bear the costs of whatever the Government has decided," Mr Armstrong said.

Mr Armstrong said while the hunger strike by farmer Peter Spencer was largely linked to land clearing bans, today's rally and the concerns about the loss of property rights were not just a native vegetation issue.

"It covers water, mining, even as much as shop fronts in urban areas where they've had a loss of property in some development issue," he said.

"It's a very broad issue – why is the Government not complying with the clause in the constitution that talks about just terms compensation when Governments acquire property rights or encumber those rights?

"We want that fixed, we want the legislation changed."

Property Rights & JUST TERMS COMPENSATION; at last some recognition but not the only right & freedoms being lost. Just where does the JUST TERMS come from? Where does PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGE come from? From the 1688 BILL OF RIGHTS, the BofR, which is not outmoded as Governments(Federal&State) & other organisations try to convince us is so. The Governments want to delete our inherited 1688 BofR & hook us into the UN BILL OF RIGHTS (no private property, no trial by jury, guilty until proven innocent, on&on) & many Human Rights organisations also want this. Delete all the UN 'people control' freedom-robbing 'laws' that have robbed Australia. Don't just stop at the JUST TERMS & Vegetation ACT, & no party politics/'for the party' but 'for the people' as the Australian Constitution really is for. Did you vote for any of the UN 'laws', & all the 'laws' by Governments that have taken, & taking away so many freedoms, sold our assets; Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, tried to sell the Snowy River Scheme, Cobby Station, trying to sell our electricity system (NSW, other states have), farms to coal mining (no property rights) & so it goes on & on! Congratulations to the N.S.W. Farmers Association for leading the way on this property rights issue. Also great to see National Party members supporting protest. And thankyou Tony Abbott for taking the time to speak to the meeting.

Congratulations Charles on your leadership and clear presentation of the truth. It is time to wake Australians from their green dream in this brown land.
