Thunderstorms have potential to become violent over northern New South Wales and southern and central Queensland in the next few days.
The atmosphere is setting itself up to generate storms which have the ability to produce heavy rain, large hail and damaging winds.
The biggest storms may bring more than 30mm of rain in short time.
On Sunday a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers in northeastern NSW.
A storm in Taree in the afternoon brought 13mm of rain in just 10 minutes.
In southwestern NSW another storm brought similar rain to West Wyalong.
Over the Queensland border there were reports of hail in Nerang, about two centimetres in diameter.
From Tuesday, most of the focus will be on Queensland for the rest of the week, where the greatest instability will linger.
