POLOCROSSE – Australia’s own homegrown equine sport –attracted a crowd of more than 5000 to the Bong Bong racecourse at Bowral last weekend for an epic four-day international tournament.
Wet weather discouraged Sunday crowds, but the tournament overall was hailed as a huge success and “a ripper of a time”, as one official put it.
The Quadrangular International Polocrosse Tournament was put together by a State-wide volunteer committee and the host club Burradoo, based in Bowral, is the oldest in the world.
It was founded in 1938 and remains a pivotal club on the polocrosse scene.
An Australian team of four men and four women pitted their strength against teams from New Zealand, the UK and South Africa over the long weekend.
The overseas teams had arrived in the country a week in advance to prepare for the tournament.
