Southern Basin water allocations increase

15 Jan, 2009 08:16 AM
The NSW Department of Water and Energy today announced an increase in water availability for general security license holders in the Murray and Murrumbidgee valleys as a result of good rainfall prior to Christmas.

Murray Valley general security allocations have increased by 5pc to 9pc of entitlement, while the water allocation for Murrumbidgee Valley general security license holders has increased by 7pc to 21pc of entitlement.

All water in accounts can be accessed immediately.

Now that general security allocations have past 20pc of entitlement, re-crediting of water to the environmental accounts has commenced.

Lower Darling Valley general security license holders remain at 50pc of entitlement.

Water to meet basic human needs for the Murray and the Murrumbidgee valleys has also been secured for the 2009/10 year.

The NSW Department of Water and Energy has also advised that all inter-valley trades must be lodged by close of business on 31 May 2009.

The closing date for interstate trades will be notified later.
