Schools builder goes broke

14 Mar, 2010 04:18 PM
A SUBCONTRACTOR working on schools stimulus projects in the NSW Riverina has allegedly gone broke, owing thousands of dollars to suppliers and leaving projects unfinished.

Affected schools include The Rock Central School and Lockhart Central School.

Construction giant Laing O'Rourke, the managing contractor for the Building the Education Revolution program in that region, said the company involved was a subcontractor to one of its Riverina partners.

Laing O'Rourke project director Ed Selby said it would help to ensure the projects were finished on time, through the use of local subcontractors.

The subcontractor involved did not return calls to The Sun-Herald.
