Peppin-Shaw comp kicks off

07 Feb, 2012 01:03 PM
THE 21st annual Peppin-Shaw Riverina flock competition kicked off this morning.

The competition will visit four flocks north of Hay today.

There is a strong crowd of 100 spectators who have travelled as far north as Nyngan and from Ararat, Victoria to watch the judging of the world's largest ewe competition.

Judges for the event are Cam Munro from Egelabra Merino stud, Warren, and Ian Evans from AWI, and associate judge is experienced sheep man Dale Bruns, Geelong, Victoria.

The topics raised today have been shearing twice yearly, stocking rates and lambing percentages and the benefits of scanning.

Tomorrow will see the competition head south, where six flocks will be judged.

The competition will culminate with a presentation at Hay tomorrow evening.
