THE NSW Farmers Association says farmers will march on Canberra next week claiming they have been denied a "fair go" on the issue of property rights.
Farmers across NSW will travel hundreds of kilometres aboard buses to rally both State and Federal Government for just and fair compensation for land locked up by clearing laws.
NSW Farmers’ Association President, Charles Armstrong, said farmers had long been denied a ‘fair go’ by governments who had removed the right to develop properties in a sustainable manner.
“If government believed in a ‘fair go’ they would compensate farmers for their lost production opportunities," he said.
"This is not only the view of the farming sector, but it has strong community support, including the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists.
“All farmers are affected by the erosion of their property rights, as we have seen very clearly in the coverage of Peter Spencer’s situation.
“We are calling on every farmer to down tools for the day next Tuesday, if it is at all possible, and hop on a bus organised by the NSW Farmers’ Association and come to Canberra – rain, hail or shine."
The rally will be held on February 2 from 10am at Magna Carta Place (near Old Parliament House) to march to Parliament House at 12pm.
