AS SWAN Hill joins the long list of towns and cities to be inundated by floodwater in the opening weeks of 2011, and the rainy conditions still won't let up, the impression is of water, water, everywhere.
Except that it's not. Dartmouth Dam, a key reservoir in the Snowy scheme, currently sits at 58 per cent and according to an MDBA spokesman, is "highly unlikely" to fill by the end of summer.
The Hume reservoir is looking much better: at 90 per cent capacity, it's still unlikely that it will fill this summer, but the spokesman hazarded that it is "possible".
Lake Victoria, another of the MDBA reservoirs, is currently at 68 per cent, but is scheduled to be drawn down to promote vegetation growth.
On the other hand, Menindee Lakes has overtopped capacity, and there is lots, lots more water to come.
