Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) chairman Don Heatley says he hopes antagonism from the Australian Beef Association stops – but he is not holding his breath.
The association attempted to put forward a motion of no confidence in Mr Heatley but was not able to be put at the annual meeting because it was defamatory.
"I'd hope any antagonism would dissipate, the reality of the situation is it seems to linger on," Mr Heatley said.
A probable pay rise will greet Mr Heatley if he makes it onto the board again after the November annual general meeting.
MLA's board will put forward a motion to increase its total salary cap for directors, excluding the managing director, by $250,000 to $750,000 at the annual meeting November 13.
If successful, directors' average annual pay will rise by $1,850 to $42,700 on January 1.
Two people other than Mr Heatley will put themselves forward for the board this year.
Sydney-based director Peter Boyden will attempt to be re-elected for a second term while Grant Burbidge, NSW, will try out for the board for the first time.
