A steel post with a clever slot and clip system to make attaching fencing wire ridiculously simple has earned Goulburn inventor, Ashley Olsson, first place in the national farm inventor competition at this week’s Australian National Field Days (ANFD) at Orange.
The self-locking clips, which do away with the need for tie wire, allow all forms of wire, from hinge-joint to plain and barb, to be slotted into place quickly and easily.
Mr Olsson said the fence system was 60pc quicker to erect than conventional steel post and wire fences.
“You are not threading wires through holes and stripping the coatings,” he said.
“The clips are made of galvanised steel and you will pull the post over before you pull the clip out.”
Insulators and stand-offs could be easily added.
The posts make easy-to-install maintenance posts when replacing broken posts and, because the system allowed the wires to be unclipped quickly, the system was particularly useful when floods threatened.
