Global warming welcomed at Glen Innes

Global warming welcomed at Glen Innes

17 Mar, 2009 05:05 PM
At least one NSW council sees climate change as beneficial to its future.

Glen Innes, in the New England Tablelands, is already experiencing burgeoning development and a rising population and believes climate change will stimulate further growth.

"The Tablelands will be a favoured area," said Graham Price, the director of development and environmental services for Glen Innes Severn Council.

"We may well benefit from climate change by seeing warmer winters and a little more rainfall in what is already a high rainfall area.

"That will increase the value of our major industry, agriculture."

Glen Innes has experienced a rash of development recently, including a new Woolworths and a truck stop. A McDonalds is on the way.

After years of decline the town experienced 8pc growth in the 2006 census.

In the past four years $20 million worth of new development has been approved.

Although after 20 years of trying, IPCC scientists have not been able to prove a causal link between CO2, the Global Warming Myth persists. Since 2004 the scientific world have known from the Vostok Ice Core samples the Temperature rises before the rise in CO2. Having said that, we know that CO2 is still rising, while since 1998 world temperatures have been falling. The increase in CO2, of course, will help farmers by giving greater growth to both crops and fodder.

Global warming is a lot of rubbish. It's just a cycle. We haven't been keeping records for long enough. Winters have become warmer here in the mountains over the past 30+ years. Just of late the summers are much cooler too.

It always amazes me when global warming sceptics cherry pick science - in this case "the Vostok Ice Core samples" - to disparage the vast body of science that does not fit their prejudices. But you may be right Geoff: temperatures last night in south-eastern Australia were below normal - certain proof that the globe is indeed cooling.

The main significance of the new [Vostok ice core] data lies in the high correlation between GTG (greenhouse trace gas) concentrations and temperature variations over 420,000 years and through four glacial cycles. However, because of the difficulty in precisely dating the air and water (ice) samples, it is still unknown whether GTG concentration increases precede and cause temperature increases, or vice versa - or whether they increase synchronously. -www.daviesand.com/Choices/Precautionary_Planning/New_Data/

Good for you guys, I guess all of us living in the Western United States will just have to deal with our massive water shortages and dying agriculture, but at least you fellas are coming out on top due to climate change. Not to mention our college is losing it's forestry major as there wont be much of a need for forestry consultants when all of our wild lands burn up, but hey, at least you can grow more celery.
