After weeks of severe rain and flooding across parts of Northern and Central NSW a further two council areas have been declared natural disasters.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher said significant damage has been caused to Lachlan Shire and Parkes Shire Councils following the severe weather.
The region has suffered extensive damage from the rain, hail and strong winds which has brought down trees causing damage to property and infrastructure including roads and fencing.
Minister Gallacher said a number of supportive schemes have been made available to assist with the cost of restoration and recovery under the NSW Disaster Assistance Arrangements.
“Many families and business owners have been affected by the weather that has lashed the area and this Natural Disaster Declaration will help get them back on their feet,” Minister Gallacher said.
“The State Emergency Service volunteers and other emergency services personnel have gone out of their way to help local residents and business owners during the severe weather. I thank them for their efforts and encourage them to keep up the good work.
A total of 15 local government areas have received Natural Disaster Declarations following the severe weather including Moree Plains, Inverell and Armidale Gunnedah, Narrabri, Gwydir, Muswellbrook, Liverpool Plains, Tamworth and the Upper Hunter Shire Councils, Uralla, Guyra, Glen Innes Severn Shire Councils.
