 Flour facts for Vietnam

Flour facts for Vietnam

24 Sep, 2009 01:51 PM
Representatives from leading flour mills in Vietnam have visited Sydney to learn about the quality and milling characteristics of Australian wheat.

Millers, bakers, manufacturers, exporters and importers participated in the five day course which was initiated by Special One Grain and conducted by BRI Australia at its North Ryde headquarters.

Chief executive officer of the Walgett-based Special One Grain co-operative in North West NSW said the course was integral to developing solid relationships with niche Asian markets such as Vietnam, and vital in the wake of deregulation of the Australian export wheat market.

In June Special One Grain representatives were in Vietnam seeking out new export markets and improving their expertise to service these niche markets.

Mr Colless said it was clear that there was a need for technical expertise to support flour mills in Vietnam that use Australian wheat and who may enter supply arrangements with Special One Grain.

“BRI Australia has designed a course that investigated not only wheat specifications but dough and flour specifications and how these characteristics can be incorporated into milling requirements,” Mr Colless said.

Dr Ken Quail from BRI Australia said BRI was well placed to deliver the technical support to Special One Grain and their international delegation.
