Flood road closure update

The Gwydir Highway has reopened between Moree to Warialda, however motorists are advised the Gwydir River Bridge is closed in both directions at Gravesend. Motorists are not able to cross the bridge.

Additionally the Carnarvon Highway is now closed only between Garah and Mungindi.

As at 11.45am the following roads remain affected by flooding:

In the north:

  • The Bruxner Highway is closed between Yetman and Boggabilla.

  • The Gwydir River Bridge is closed on the Gwydir Highway at Gravesend.

  • The Ulmarra ferry remains out of service for repairs.

  • The Bluff Point Ferry is out of service due to high tides.

  • There is road surface damage on the New England Highway between Tamworth and Glen Innes. Road crews are making repairs however motorists should exercise caution.

  • Waterfall Way has road damage between Dorrigo Mountain and Bellingen. Motorists should exercise caution, traffic has been reduced to one lane with traffic management in place.

    In the west:

  • The Kamilaroi Highway is closed between Narrabri and Burren Junction.

  • The Newell Highway is open between Narrabri and Boggabilla, but restrictions have been placed on heavy vehicles due to damage to the road surface.

    Loads more than 3.5m wide or weighing more than 80 tonnes must not travel on or west of the Newell Highway until further notice.

    The New England Highway and Pacific Highway remain open.
