Fears Young piggery silo would explode

A SPECIALIST hazardous materials team from Sydney were called to a silo fire at Windridge piggery, Young, due to fears the 100-tonne silo would explode.

Firefighters from Young and Cootamundra doused the silo, which contained about 30t of grain, after it caught fire on Tuesday morning.

NSW Fire Brigade superintendent, Paul Bailey, said the HAZMAT specialists were called due to a risk of dust explosion.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
