A priestly blast for 'dark' PETA

29 May, 2008 10:35 AM
A CATHOLIC priest in southern NSW has thrown the Bible at animal rights activists who have declared war on Australian wool producers.

Listening to an animal rights campaigner is the quickest way to get Father Mick MacAndrew's Irish up, and now the foot soldier for God is on a one man "mission" to protect his flock from the pro-vegetarian, anti-mulesing group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The Bombala-based preacher has blessed the act of removing skin around a sheep's tail to guard against flesh-eating maggots.

He believed activists were deliberately muddying the world's natural law by condemning animal husbandry knowledge dating back thousands of years.

He has even told farming parishioners it is okay to lie about whether their wool comes from mulesed sheep so prices are not forced down by sanctions driven by PETA, which claims to have 1.8 million members who believe animals are not supposed to be eaten, worn or used for entertainment.

All I can say is more power to Fr. Mick.

It's about time someone started to stand up to these irrational PETA clowns.

They (PETA) go around claiming the moral high ground and what's more people are stupid enough to let them have it.

It is about time they crawled back under the rock they came out from and let the rest of the world get on with life.

Oh Brother, Father!!

I'd have thought a 'Christian' might have been a little more compassionate toward his fellow animals. Are they not, in his church's teaching, also God's creatures?

Leaving aside his lack of compassion, the fault in his reasoning is that he sees only two options – mules sheep or have them suffer from fly-strike. There are more – from spending more time (and money – that's the catch isn't it?) on monitoring and crutching to not farming these wrinkly Merino sheep at all.

And why is it that he fears that giving greater respect to the interests of non-humans somehow reduces the status of humans? Don't we reach our greatest humanity when we treat others with respect and compassion?

Like the good Father, I don't want to be 'forced' into anything but I can heartily recommend veganism. I'd suggest he give it a try – he'll save a lot of suffering as well as a lot of CO2 emissions.

Be careful, Friar. Remember, you ARE dealing with fanatics, here.

That said, I salute you! Now only if more community and religious leaders around the world and here in the U.S. would stand up to the Veganist Jihad the way you have...

I had a chance to visit the Norfolk area and saw the PETA headquarters. It is sad that the public isn't more aware of how their contributions are used.

Small organizations who work out of their homes do considerable more for the benefit of animals than this huge, wasteful, murdering, etc. etc. organization. Donations for animal welfare need to be made to the groups that place animals in loving homes and do not kill 90% of the animals put into their care.

Amen Father Mick. Keep fighting.

Way to go Father Mac!

Another industry and another community see the light and decide to fight back against lies and vilification in the name of commoditized "compassion".

Every time a group stands up and fights back against the animal scams, they win! Campaigns based on lies, distortions and vilification have no depth and very thin support.

Who is more compassionate? Those that would like to see less pain and suffering in the world and peacefully express their opinions (even if others view the material in poor taste, there is no record of violence), or a group that has been the cause of millions of murders in the world's history (and that is just counting humans). I don't think one can find any fault with a group that has a message, whatever message, without that group having a record of violence. Freedom of speech should be an honored right in any country. I think it is any easy choice to pick a side to support in this story. The side that is preaching hate, promoting lies and slandering of those with differing opinions. Or the side that is preaching compassion for all creatures including humans. Based on this article, MacAndrew is no preacher of anything that even resembles the words of the bible. He is holding the dollar more sacred than love or even compassion. It is a shame.

PETA is dark. It's the occult,” said Father MacAndrew (pictured supporting members of his congregation in their fight with the anti-mulesing lobby).
