Wine industry slams tax hikes, buyback scheme

26 May, 2008 02:29 PM
The Federal Government's strongly criticised move to increase the tax on ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages by 70pc, and rumours of a possible 300pc hike on wine and beer, has the Australian wine industry bracing for more pain.

In the June edition of GrapeGrowers & Vignerons, the spotlight is cast on the RTD tax leap, the resulting revenue, and whether the wine industry is in serious jeopardy of 'tax torture'.

The publication also exposes flaws in the Government's water buyback scheme, takes an energetic look at an alternative use for winegrapes and reports on the latest in scandals that have rocked the Italian wine industry.

Yet another new Labour Tax proposal!

If this increase tax and create new taxes policy of Labour continues, we will be a banana republic in no time.

I have freinds who fled Zimbabwe to get away from 100,000% annual inflation, but the continual tax increases and creation by this government are making them and myself VERY nervous.

A vibrant economy where government income is derived from collecting income tax, should be far more preferable to taxing businesses out of existence!

Fuel and fertilser price increases would have to be the biggest inflationary pressures we face at present aside from state and govt taxes, but taxes are about to kill us financially.
