Wraps off Silvan's Supaflow orchard sprayer

03 May, 2010 12:44 PM
LEADING orchard sprayer supplier Silvan Australia last week took the wraps off its new Supaflo G2 sprayer, the fruits of a $1 million research and development project.

Managing director Steven Lelli said the company had invested in about 150 new products during the past three to four years, underscoring how it was all about the detail - “getting it right" ahead of the market release date.

Of the new Supaflo G2 sprayer, he said the development was a taste of what orchardists could expect down-the-track, adding “the best is yet to come".

The new sprayer was launched at a major Silvan dealer conference held in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, drawing applause when a limited edition version with its distinctive new tank shape and red and black colour scheme was wheeled into the Sebel Heritage Hotel venue.

Available in 2000L and 4000L capacities, they feature a Polytuff rotationally moulded tank, plus the company’s proven Glideflex suspension system. Options include Silvan’s Simplicity tandem axle system.

Key features include:

  • A roll out chemical induction drawer for safe mixing and transfer of orchard chemicals as powdered, granulated or liquid materials.
  • Use of specialised Silvan IDS diaphragm pumps known for their efficiency, high performance and long life.
  • An air delivery system designed to improves Supaflo G2’s spray coverage throughout a crop’s canopy.

The sprayer’s central operating station allows tank filling, emptying, flushing, chemical induction, operator clean–up tap and access to the spray pump all from the one location.

The heavy duty two speed gearbox which drives a user’s preferred fan assembly is oil filled, allowing it to be slowed to reduce the air volume for lighter canopies, or increased for heavier growth.

Meanwhile, the Silvan Supaflo G2’s patented Silvan Powerhead air delivery option produces a more even air flow by ducting the output from the fan to ensure deeper canopy penetration using less horsepower.

Powerhead and small deflectors at the top of the cowling direct the air flow into the upper or lower regions of the orchard canopy for deeper and more even penetration.

Also on offer from Silvan is its patented Radak conveyor – available in four main configurations with up to sixteen spray nozzles per side - enabling growers to select a spraying solution for trees ranging in height from three to 10m and row widths from three up to 14m.

Expect to see a 3,000L Supaflo sprayer shortly.

Graham Fuller was a guest of Silvan Australia at its Victorian product launch.
