Rain fails to fire Vic sheep markets

Rain fails to fire Vic sheep markets

05 May, 2008 07:58 AM
Falls of 8-16mm of rain last week across a broad area of Victoria failed to spark the demand for store sheep at Wycheproof on Friday.

Prices for best quality crossbred and Merino ewes, scanned-in-lamb, were at best firm on recent sales.

Sales of off-the-top lines were a further $10-$15 a head cheaper especially those close or on the point of lambing.

An unusual feature of this 8000 head yarding was the absent of wether sheep, with not one pen being yarded.

The market was easier at Wycheproof, Vic, despite last week's rain.
