BOTH cattle and lamb national indicators eased back across almost all categories this week, as bigger yardings eroded much of the impact of last week’s rain-influenced gains.
The ongoing surge in the $A this week also continued to subdue beef and lamb export demand again.
CATTLE:
National cattle prices fell 1-4pc on average this week, with the largest fall across the young cattle categories, as restocker demand again waned, MLA says.
But Queensland prices bucked the weaker trend, finishing the week up across all categories, despite a sharp jump in offerings
Nationally, this was offset by lower prices in NSW and Victoria.
The eastern young cattle indicator (EYCI), therefore, fell by 6¢/kg this week, to finish after Thursday's sales at 320¢/kg carcase weight.
The national Japan ox indicator slipped back 2¢/kg, to 312¢/kg cwt.
LAMB:
Lamb offerings increased across all eastern states this week, with national offerings up 19pc on on those of the previous week and up 15pc year-on-year.
Last week’s rain continued to boost demand for restocker lambs, up 4pc on last week, to $64/head.
But the influx of new season and old lambs saw both trade and heavy categories finishing the week at 428¢/kg cwt – down 8pc and 5pc, respectively, on last week.
