A Guinness Book of Records team may have timed it a record, if they were there. The buzz around the yards called it one.
It took just one hour to sell all 4000 head of weaner steers and heifers to one of the largest crowds at Dubbo saleyards on Friday in the largest single-vendor, single-brand store cattle auction conducted at the venue.
The cattle bred by the Australian Agricultural Company on Brunette Downs and Avon Downs in the Northern Territory, had been transported by road train from Dirranbandi, Queensland, to Dubbo in a little more than 100 decks.
A total of 800 Santa Gertrudis and Santa Gertrudis/Charolais cross steers, predominantly 12 to 15 months of age, sold from $410 to $610, while 3200 heifers of the same description cleared from $350 to $550.
They sold to three states, Dalby, St George, Millmerran, and Meandarra in Queensland; Gunnedah, Tamworth, Coonabarabran, Quirindi, Scone, Orange, Bathurst and Ivanhoe in NSW and Alexandria, Victoria.
The sale was conducted by Davidson Cameron Board and Simmons, Dubbo and Gunnedah in conjunction with Queensland agents, GDL Livestock and Property.
