Heavier steers in demand at Gundagai

11 Jun, 2008 05:15 PM
HEAVIER steers weighing 360-400kg had no problem making 185-190 cents a kilogram liveweight equivalent at the Macalister and Saunderson store sale at Gundagai, NSW, last Friday with many of the lighter and medium weights making more than 200c.

"It was a very strong market," said Abb McAlister, "and the market for heifers was much the same, probably 5 cents a kilogram dearer than what the market has been.

"The steer job was certainly strong," Mr McAlister said.

He said rain in the north of NSW and southern Qld had certainly helped boost demand from areas such as Trangie and the North West of NSW and southern Qld. Strong local demand underpinned the sale.
