Charnock's day of the Jackal with $62,500 Hereford record

08 May, 2008 03:32 PM
Charnock has set a new Hereford National sale record of $62,500.

The Rochford, Victoria, based stud owned by Hugh and Elizabeth Morgan set the ceiling for prices at today’s Hereford National sale in Wodonga, with two-year-old bull Charnock Jackal (AI).

The promising young bull sparked an all out bidding war with the King family, Bowmont Herefords, Tatyoon, Vic, teaming up with Paul and Nola Rogers, Centennial stud, Coolah, NSW, to make the purchase.

By Charnock Fireball (AI) and from Charnock Sunset, Jackal tipped the scales at more than 1100 kilograms and scanned an eye muscle area (EMA) of 137 square centimeters.

Jackal has estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +6.2 for birth weight (BW), +92 for 600 day weight and +4 for EMA.

Other big earners included 26-month-old Mawarra Trail Blazer (AI) from the Sykes family’s Mawarra stud, Longford, Vic.

By GH Neon 17NSIC and from Mawarra Minerva 554 ET1, Trail Blazer was knocked down for $48,000 to the Collins family’s Glenwarrah Herefords, Bundarra, NSW, and the Wandon stud.

The sale is still in progress.

Great sale result but looked incongruous next to a beef CRC story on de-horning.
