The Roma, Qld, store market held up "surprisingly well" yesterday, despite large numbers of cattle continuing to roll into the saleyards.
Elders Roma livestock agent, Mick Connell, said despite slight price decreases in lighter steers, the market is holding strong for this time of year.
"It's surprising to see that the market has held up this well, especially with the frosts around and feed starting to cut out, plus large numbers of cattle being yarded each week," Mr Connell said.
Roma saleyard reporter, Penelope Arthur, said the yarding lacked the big lines of very good quality steers and heifers featured last week and that it was reflected in prices.
"Values for most descriptions of steers and heifers eased slightly," Mrs Arthur said.
A total of 8700 head of cattle were yarded on Tuesday.
The Perrett Cattle Co, Sunnymead, Roma sold the top priced steers of the sale. The 475kg Charbray types returned 177c/kg to make $842/head.
In the heifer section, the Pampling family, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold highest priced 439kg Charolais-cross heifers for 166c to earn $730.
