Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker has expressed dismay at media reports that Qantas is serving Filipino bananas on its flights.
The ABC reported yesterday that bananas from the Philippines were served on a flight from Auckland to Sydney.
Mr Hartsuyker said he was astounded by the news.
"Given the risk to Philippine bananas to our industry I cannot believe they are permitted to be used on any international flight which is bound for Australia," Mr Hartsuyker.
"That poses a threat to the clean, green image of the Australian banana industry.
"I am equally dismayed at reports that our national carrier Qantas is the alleged offender.
"How can the Flying Kangaroo desert Aussie banana growers?"
Mr Hartsuyker has written to Qantas chief executive officer, Alan Joyce, seeking clarification of the media reports.
