Clear grain trading ready to launch

29 Oct, 2008 10:17 AM
New online trading house Clear Commodities is almost ready to go live – with all major requirements ticked off and the financial systems put in place.

Company officials expect the system to be up and running shortly – and are happy with the response from the industry to the concept – which involves matching buyers and sellers via an online trading house.

Clear's managing director, Grant Thomas, said registrations had been flowing in from brokers and buyers across the country.

"We've had excellent support from grain traders, brokers, buyers and growers, they are now completing and returning the final pieces of paperwork to activate their participation," Mr Thomas said.

He said the feedback was that participants were happy with the Clear operating platform.

"Invariably, attendees were highly impressed with the platform's speed, accuracy and security provisions."

Mr Thomas said the idea for Clear Commodities came about following the deregulation of the bulk wheat industry and the need for a national, secure trading platform.

"With the demise of the ‘single-desk’, there will be new domestic and off-shore participants in the marketplace this year, and everyone will have to be mindful of this new trading environment and the need for financial security," he said.

Mr Thomas said the Clear gateway had features that would appeal to buyers and sellers of grain, such as:

* lodging of bids and offers – by grain, grade and site, Australia wide;

* up-to-the-minute price discovery;

* seven day payment;

* inventory management;

* confidential and secure operations;

* built-in levy collection and payment;

* no fixed overheads – Clear is a user pays system; and

* simplicity – current transaction processes are rolled into one system.
