ABB Grain believes it has done all within its powers to appease the SA Farmers' Federation (SAFF), following SAFF's vigorous campaign to make sure of open access to port facilities for other grain exporters after its takeover by the big Canadian-based Viterra grains group.
ABB chairman Perry Gunner said there could be no issue with the ABB undertaking to the ACCC, saying: “ABB Grain has provided open access to its ports.
"Growers and marketers should understand the process we’re going through with the ACCC, and that our undertaking is designed to give them comfort that the bulk handlers are obliged to give fair and reasonable access to ports infrastructure.
“We’re continuing to work through this process with the ACCC and we look forward to a continuation of our wheat export licence.
“Viterra is on the record as being committed to the ACCC process.
"They have said they will continue the same ports open access in Australia that they have had in Canada.”
