NFF president, David Crombie, hopes to meet with Prime Minister, Julia Gillard as soon as possible to get a clear definition of "regional" and determine where the big regional funding she announced this week will really be targeted.
Mr Crombie welcomed the big $10 billion funding announcement this week, but admitted it was unclear where that money would be spent.
"There was precious little focus through the election campaign on regional Australia and there's been very intense discussion on regional Australia ever since," Mr Crombie said.
"We welcome that focus on regional Australia in sorting out who the Government was going to be; now we're looking at getting on with business."
Mr Crombie said NFF wants to talk to the Government more about the opportunity for regional tax zone rebates - part of the package on offer to the independents by the Coalition - as he was disappointed the rebates weren't part of the big regional package announced by the Prime Minister.
"We're looking forward to sitting down with the Government and really pushing hard on those areas of policy that have had some attention," he said.
Mr Crombie said acknowledgement by the Prime Minister and her deputy, Wayne Swan, that a fair share for regional Australia had been missing in the past was "a long time coming".
