IPCC report flaws enough to halt US climate action

17 Feb, 2010 10:46 AM
TWO US Republican Senators, James Inhofe of Oklahoma and John Barrasso of Wyoming, believe the errors in the IPCC report on climate change are reason enough for the US to block mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions.

Sen. Barosso would even like to see an independent probe into the IPCC report, suggesting that the US should halt any action on climate until it verifies the panel's scientific conclusions.

Errors in the report range from typos in key dates to sloppy sourcing.

Scientists even overstated how much of the Netherlands was below sea level.

The ramifications of the IPCC report are spread far and wide, most notably to the Environmental Protection Agency's finding that greenhouse gases from mobile sources endanger public health and welfare.

A coalition of conservative groups has filed a petition to overturn the EPA's finding on the same grounds.

Who are the Senators, and are they Republican or Democrat? This "belief" by two senators is being reported as pseudofact, without reference to the political canoes the Senators may be paddling.

Editor's note: Those details have been obtained and added to the story for you.

If Kevin cut the ETS loose and eats a bit of humble pie, he might get his second term. But if he hangs onto it his chances are grim.

Here's hoping he hangs onto it Qlander and does lose the election as a result. More sense may then prevail.

The only good thing to come out of this IPCC and Climate Change debacle is that people generally think more about how pollution can be reduced, starting at a household level and putting pressure on business to reduce emissions (in whatever form). We should be concerned about what is chucked out, spewed into the atmosphere, thrown into rivers and oceans. Lets hope the American EPA withdraws their call for submissions on their proposal to ban carbon dioxide as a dangerous pollutant. Its what life on earth relies upon. The bad thing about this whole debacle is that science has taken a backward step with all the agenda driven scientists and politicians trying to scam us. Data validation has always been the hallmark of scientific rigour. The world has always relied on it.

Pickle, I don't know who these guys are either, but they could hardly come from the 'prominent scientist' camp, so I suppose they are a couple of 'red necks' from the American out back, blessed with old fashioned common sense.

Here we go again.

Anything less than a complete audit of these climate cretins would be a travesty. We are already 40% of the way to a doubling of CO2 and given that forcing theory is logarithmic, it means at least 50% of the warming from a doubling has already taken place. We also know that a large slice of recorded temperature rise is Urban Heat Island effect etc so the worst warming attributable to CO2 is only about 0.4C to date. So a doubling of CO2 to 550ppm will only add another 0.4C. The IPCC worst case scenario claims this doubling will take place by 2100 but in reality it may never get that high. If the Ethiopoians, Somalis, Bangladeshis and all the rest only achieve a GDP per capita of US$30,000 by 2100 then we won't see CO2 of 550ppm until 2200 or never. If China achieves average living standards and emissions equivalent to what the Swiss or Swedes exhibit today then a doubling of CO2 is completely off the radar. And even if it remains a possibility, it will not be here until 2300 and all our plant species will have had time to adjust to the 0.4C temperature rise.

Not since I first learned to read have I read more lies and ill informed opinions than those that have been written by the promoters & defenders of the global warming scam. To appreciate truth about the scam it is essential to know that the claim that necessity is the mother of invention is a falsehood. Fear is in fact the true mother of invention and never more so than when fear of impoverishment induces the rich & powerful to invent self-serving lies & falsehoods. The global warming scam was invented by world bureaucrats & public funded scientists driven by fear of impoverishment consequential of the fact that their superannuation schemes are already under-funded by countless $trillions & falling further behind year after year by hundreds of $billions. As reported in The Australian on January 1, 2010, Australia’s superannuation scheme was, at the end of the 2008 financial year, under-funded by a whopping $695billion & falling further behind at the rate of $60 billion plus per year. Throughout the EU, the real driving force of the global warming scam, the circumstances are much worse.

And not before time. The question now must be, how, in a supposedly well educated society, could so many people be so ignorant of their environment as to fall for the garbage that some politicians have piled on us? Not even the IPCC was telling the story that politicians and media were using to justify the demands being made. This was a propaganda scam ranking among the biggest ever seen. So what was their motive? What was their ultimate goal?

Pickle, the canoes that the two Senators are paddling are the canoes of extreme political conservatism, without reference to evidence or reason. Inhofe in particular likes to chant the bizarre idea that climate change is a hoax. If you think there is any truth in this notion, I urge you to look at the science. Not the IPCC reports, not the media reports, not the political speeches, not the dodgy blogs. Go to the actual science. Climate change has been studied for decades and there's plenty of material to think about ...
