Temple Grandin film sweeps Emmys

31 Aug, 2010 05:58 AM
Mick Jackson, who directed "Temple Grandin," the made-for-television HBO movie, accepted one of the show's Emmy's on Sunday night and said in a moving moment "we wanted to make a movie that was worthy of you," referring to Dr. Grandin, who was sitting in the audience.

Moments later Dr Grandin was on the stage when the whole team that created the film, won an Emmy for the film about her life as a autistic scientist, who has inspired a whole nation.

Earlier in the awards ceremony, Claire Danes, won the Emmy for her portrayal of Grandin, who has dedicated her life to advancing the science of animal welfare and enhancing the lives of autistic people.

Dr Grandin last year visited outback Queensland for field days to help livestock producers with their cattle yard designs.

Colorado State University animal scientist, Grandin, clad in her signature Western wear, was applauded by the star-studded audience as she was repeatedly acknowledged during the Emmy ceremony.

The film, which is available on DVD, won seven Emmy nominations.

I was very touched by the picture. She is a great lady.

She certainly is. I just wish more people had paid attention to her ideas for yards and abattoirs years ago. Her principles of livestock handling should be compulsory reading and learning for all handlers of livestock.
