Storms for Qld, WA, snow for NSW

Storms for Qld, WA, snow for NSW

22 Oct, 2008 01:15 PM
Some good rain has been received in the last 24 hours in parts of rural Western Australia and Queensland, while snow is today falling in the NSW ranges.

Thoughts of summer have been temporarily bumped to the background in NSW, after snowfalls in the Blue Mountains this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed reports snow had fallen in the mountains, and said there had also been falls at Bombala on the Far South Coast and at Cooma in the Snowy Mountains.

The wierd weather follows dramatic storms in South East Queensland last night where hail damaged some crops in the Lockyer and Brisbane Valleys.

However, the Bureau of Meteorology reports that the storm cells only brought minor rain to the region, with Ipswich receiving 21mm, Toowoomba 6mm, Kingaroy 4mm, Esk 7mm, Gatton 4mm, Maleny 15mm, Nambour 4mm, Nerang 9mm, and Wivenhoe Dam 10mm.

That weather system also delivered good falls to the NSW Far North Coast, with Casino receiving 11mm.

In WA the Bureau has recorded 15mm at Chillinup, 9mm at Gnowangerup, Beacon had 10mm, Cunderdin 5mm, Doodlakine 10mm, Manna Vale 13mm, Merredin 8mm, Cherry Tree 11mm, Horseshoe 19mm, Katanning 9mm, and Tambellup 14mm.

According to The Weather Company, cloud is today forming over northeastern NSW in a surge of cold southerly winds, which is generating showers and thunderstorms.

Cloud from central NSW to Tasmania in the cold southerlies is causing showers, falling as snow on the ranges.

The cloud over WA is in a trough will continue causing thundery showers.
