Patchy rain brings good falls from coast to coast

16 Jul, 2008 09:02 AM
Patchy showers have brought good falls to agricultural regions across Australia overnight, as two weather systems go to work on either side of the country.

According to The Weather Company, widespread cloud over eastern Queensland ahead of a trough is generating rain, mostly on the ranges.

Meanwhile, a cloudband crossing Western Australia ahead of a cold front is only bringing light showers, but scattered cloud in the southwest of the State behind the front is bringing frequent showers with good results.

The Bureau of Meteorology reports that in the 24 hours to 9am parts of WA had received up to 50mm, while falls of 10-15mm were common in Queensland.

There have also been patchy falls in southern NSW, Victoria and South Australia.

State-by-state the best rainfall measurements were:

* Queensland: Cairns 27mm, South Johnstone 46mm, Townsville 16mm, Emerald 9mm, Dalby 8mm, Toowoomba 12mm, Gatton 10mm, and Beaudesert 8mm, while there are unofficial reports of 25mm being recorded at Alpha;

* NSW: Bombala 17mm, Cabramurra 6mm, Wagga Wagga 4mm, and Deniliquin 8mm;

* Victoria: Swan Hill 14mm, Hopetoun 10mm, Nhill 3mm, and Comienbar 13mm;

* SA: Keith West 12mm and Clare 4mm; and

* WA: Badgingarra 42mm, Geraldton 16mm, Morawa 14mm, Bickley 49mm, Dwellingup 45mm, Gingin 37mm, Jandakot 43mm, Mandurah 25mm, Bunbury 45mm, Collie East 39mm, Shannon 42mm, Walpole 36mm, Newdegate 16mm, Wandering 25mm, Cunderdin 18mm, and Dalwallinu 24mm.

In the grip of an extremely dry Autumn/Winter weather pattern. Note , Combienbar 13mm, is in a very remote area in far East of the Region.
