CLIMATE Change and Water Minister Penny Wong said yesterday the federal government had been swamped with offers from farmers wanting to sell their water but had to turn many of them down.
"As a result of the 2008-09 water purchases tender becoming fully subscribed, many offers to sell water had to be rejected," she told the Senate.
As at August 30, she said the government had purchased about 545 gigalitres, worth $840 million, The Australian Financial Review reports.
