Four Corners has Labor sides on edge

Four Corners has Labor sides on edge

09 Feb, 2012 07:23 AM
KEVIN RUDD is refusing to grant an interview to the ABC's Four Corners program as both sides of the leadership divide grow increasingly paranoid about an upcoming episode about Mr Rudd and Labor.

Supporters of the Prime Minster, Julia Gillard, worry the episode, due to be screened on Monday night, will serve as a launching pad for Mr Rudd's ambitions while the Rudd camp fears a hatchet job on the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Consequently, both camps want their message to prevail.

The Herald has been told some members of the class of 2007 - those who were elected under Mr Rudd in 2007 but lost their seats in 2010 - have been encouraged by the Rudd camp to be interviewed by the ABC and blame the 2010 leadership change for losing their seats.

It is understood Maxine McKew, who was loyal to Mr Rudd and lost her seat of Bennelong in 2010 after one term, declined to be interviewed. The Herald has also been told Gillard forces have sought to impress upon Four Corners negative tales about Mr Rudd.

Sources say the show's producers have been scouring the mining sector for polling allegedly done by one minerals company and used to impress upon Labor bosses the need for a leadership change. At the time Mr Rudd was dumped, he was at war with the mining sector over his proposed resources super-profits tax.

The program is still being filmed and the ABC remains tight-lipped about it. Ms Gillard has been interviewed but, despite repeated requests, Mr Rudd, who doesn't want to be seen to be making trouble, has declined.

It is understood one right-wing factional boss, who supported the coup against Mr Rudd, now concedes it was a wrong move.

Sounds like a ploy by the Labour licking 4C to regain some of its Liberal/Nat&rural viewers following the live-export scandell.I have only watched this show three times in the last 20 years just so as to follow how it is they plan to shaft our beloved industry. I for one, will not start bending over now!

@Shambolic, watching that politically manipulative, biased rot is about as blissful as constipation! While I am no Labour supporter, especially in this agriculturally destructive climate, I do strongly support Rudd for seeing through and standing up to these galahs! At least he gave two stuffs as to fight for industry against such a destructively uneducated handling of the fiasco by his counterpart/s! Ignorance you say? Sounds like another Gillard/Labour promise to me!

There are two things that hold Rudd back. The first is that he is Labour. The second, under our current political Governmental constitution, derived of Westminster heritage and the despiteful and manipulative freedom that our elected have, he is far too "nice a chap" to succeed in leadership.

Governmence does still carry a certain level of public participation, particularly, around election time. Rudd is refusing to place his head on a chopping block where Julia is once again his executioner, especially when he recognises the stage to once again be just that; staged. Got time for a beer Kev?

Why would mr Rudd lower himself to anywhere near that of which our current PM (and her supporters) stooped? He will wait until the members come to him to rise again.

The thing that we all forget is how Rudd was leader when Wong wasted millions on water that didn't exist, every school got a building they didnt need, and some homes got insulated, whilst others burnt on Garrets watch. He was as bad a manager as you can get. Do you think he is a spiteful person? You bet!

I wonder if 4 corners will do a piece on Turnbull recapturing the leadership off Abbott - afterall, the difference in popularity between Turnbull and Abbott is greater than that between Rudd and Gillard.
