Weather warnings are in place for much of southern Australia as a low moves in from Central Australia bringing with it forecasts of good rain for much of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
According to The Weather Company, a deepening low over SA is drawing very warm, moist air from the tropics to generate widespread rain and storms over the interior and south.
It reports that there is a severe weather warning in place for NSW and the ACT.
The low should be over western Victoria tonight and Bass Strait on Saturday.
Widespread rain is expected across most of NSW with this system with moderate to heavy falls, and a floodwatch is in place for the Upper Macquarie, Bell, Castlereagh and Peel River Valleys.
There is also a floodwatch in place for Tasmania's northern rivers, with heavy rain expected about northern and eastern areas overnight and during Saturday.
There is also more thunderstorm activity expected for northern parts, with The Weather Company reporting that a trough in northern NSW is triggering the odd thundery shower, with northerly winds in Queensland bringing another warm morning.
