Kewell signs for Galatasaray

4/07/2008 10:53:56 AM

Socceroos star Harry Kewell has signed a three-year contract with Galatasaray, the Turkish club said today.

Kewell, 29, was available to the Turkish champions on a free transfer after he was cut by Liverpool earlier this year following five injury-troubled seasons at Anfield.

Italian club Roma and English Premier League outfit Portsmouth had also been linked with the forward, who played a starring role for the Socceroos last month in the first round of Asian qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

The move to Galatasaray ended any possibility of Kewell being one of Australia's three over-age players at the Beijing Olympics.
